Atomic mass is different from relative atomic mass or average atomic mass. The atomic mass is the mass of one specific isotope of an atom. It contains the combined mass of protons, electrons and neutrons present in an atom. The relative atomic mass is the weighted average mass of all the isotopes of the atom. While the mass is measured in atomic mass unit the relative mass is expressed as atomic weight. Examples are all the elements of a periodic table. Carbon, for example has an atomic mass of 12, twelve. Similarly hydrogen has mass of 1, one. The mass also tells that how many protons and neutrons are present in an atom. Electron mass is minimal.
